Websites for small businesses

A website for your business, built by someone in Ellicott City.

A one-page website for a small business in Howard County or the Baltimore area costs $1,000 and takes 3 to 4 days. I write it, build it for phones first, and put it live on a domain in your name. After that, $50 a month keeps it running, or you take it over with nothing more to pay.

Email me about a site or write to [email protected]. I reply within a day.

What you get for $1,000

After it goes live

Two choices. For $50 a month I host it, check that it stays up, and make small changes, up to about an hour a month. Or I hand the whole thing over to you and you run it yourself. Josh Anderson picked the second option and updates his own site now.

Need more than a page?

I also build small web apps: online booking, a client area, or a tool your office uses every day. Those are priced per project once I know what they have to do. My own apps were built the same way.

Who this is for

Small businesses and independent professionals around Ellicott City, Columbia, Howard County and Baltimore. A massage therapist, a musician, a childcare provider, a mobile service. People who need one good page that a customer can find from a card, a text, or a search, and who would rather deal with a person than a template.

Sites I have built

Josh Anderson Music
One page for a fiddle and mandolin player: shows, booking, photos. He picked from a few designs, I finished the one he chose over a weekend, and he runs it himself now. Live at joshandersonmusic.com.
Daffodil Hill Childcare
Home childcare in Columbia, MD. Services, photos, reviews, and a way to book a visit, for a provider with 25 years of experience. Live at daffodilhillchildcare.com.
High Point Sticks
Mobile blood draws for Baltimore and nearby counties. Replaced a Wix site in two to three days. Live at highpointsticks.com.

How a site happens

  1. You tell me what the site has to do, and send whatever you have: photos, a logo, an old site, or nothing.
  2. I write and build a first version. For a one-page site that is usually 3 to 4 days.
  3. We go through it together and change what needs changing. Usually one or two rounds.
  4. It goes live on a domain in your name. $50 a month keeps it hosted and covers small changes, or you can take it from there.

Questions people ask

How much does a small business website cost?
A one-page site from me is $1,000, half to start and half when it goes live. That includes the writing and the layout. Bigger sites with more pages or features are quoted separately once I know what they need to do.
How long does it take?
A one-page site usually takes 3 to 4 days from the time you send me your material. I do this work evenings and weekends, so the hours are spread across the calendar rather than done in one sitting.
Do you build custom web apps?
Yes. Online booking, a client area, or a tool your office uses every day. These are priced per project. My own apps were built the same way.
What happens after the site goes live?
Either I keep it running for $50 a month, which covers hosting, uptime checks and small changes up to about an hour a month, or I hand the whole thing over to you with nothing more to pay. The domain is registered in your name either way.
Where do you work?
I am in Ellicott City, Maryland, and most of my clients are in Howard County, Columbia and the Baltimore area. We can meet in person or do everything by email and a call.

Tell me about your site.

Asking is free and does not commit you to anything. I reply within a day.
