Every layer, built by hand

Websites built for you. By someone you can talk to.

I’m Matt Knapp, in Ellicott City, Maryland. I build websites for local businesses and teach people how to use AI. You’ll deal with me, not a team, start to finish.

Daffodil Hill Childcare, home childcare in Columbia, MD. Built by me, live at daffodilhillchildcare.com.

Two things I do.

Websites

From $1,000 for a one-page site · optional care $50/month

Written and built for you, made to look right on a phone. First draft usually within 3 to 4 days of getting your material; launch depends on how many changes you want.

What’s included
  • Half up front, half when it goes live. Bigger sites are quoted separately.
  • Designed for phones first, because that’s where most people will see it.
  • I write the words and do the layout. Send me what you have, and I’ll build the rest.
  • Your domain is registered in your name for about $15 a year, so it’s yours, not mine. I’ll walk you through it.
  • After launch, two options. I look after it for $50 a month: it runs on my hosting, I check that it stays up, and I make small changes (up to about an hour a month), with no separate hosting bill. Or you take it: I hand it all over with nothing more to pay, and if you already pay for hosting somewhere, I can put it there instead.

Need more than a page? I also build small web apps: online booking, a client area, or a tool your office uses every day. My own apps were built the same way. Priced per project.

AI lessons

$100 for 90 minutes · office workshops priced on request

Set up on your phone and used safely for everyday things. Or go further, if you already use it.

What a lesson covers
  • We set up Claude or ChatGPT properly on your phone, your computer, or both.
  • Already on something else? I also teach Gemini, Grok and Grokbot, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, Meta AI, and Muse, plus self-hosted assistants like Hermes and OpenClaw.
  • You’ll leave already using it for three things you do every week.
  • No jargon. We meet at your place or on a call. The free versions are fine for learning; a paid plan helps but isn’t required.
  • Want your whole office using it? I run workshops for teams. Tell me about your office, and I’ll send you a price.

Most people start here

  • Staying safe: what never to type into it, when not to trust an answer, and how to spot AI scams like a fake voice call from “family.”
  • Writing a difficult email, a card, or a toast that still sounds like you.
  • Taking a photo of a confusing letter or bill and asking what you need to do about it.
  • Talking to it out loud and pointing your camera at things: a plant, a menu, a part at the hardware store.
  • Planning a trip, a week of meals, or a family get-together.

Already using it? I can show you more

  • Claude Projects and custom GPTs that remember your business, your voice, and your ongoing work.
  • Agents: letting ChatGPT or Claude browse, fill in forms, and finish multi-step tasks, and knowing when not to.
  • Setting up an agent harness like OpenClaw or Hermes: an assistant that runs on your own computer or server, remembers your ongoing work, and can message you on Telegram. We go over what it can do, what permissions it should and should not have, and which actions should wait for your approval.
  • Coding tools like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, so you can build your own tools without being a programmer.
  • Image models like Midjourney, ChatGPT, and Gemini for flyers, logos, product shots, and restoring old photos.
  • Connecting Claude or ChatGPT to Gmail, Calendar, and Drive, and setting up automations with Zapier or n8n.

About the advanced topics: in a lesson we cover what these can do and get you started. Installing a harness, wiring up integrations, or building a larger automation is its own project, scoped and priced separately.

Have an idea for an app or a website? Bring it. We can sketch it together with AI in the lesson, and when you want it built for real, I’ll build it and put it live. Email me the idea

How a site happens

  1. You tell me what the site has to do, and send whatever you have: photos, a logo, an old site, or nothing.
  2. I write and build a first version. For a one-page site that is usually 3 to 4 days.
  3. We go through it together and change what needs changing. Usually one or two rounds.
  4. It goes live on a domain in your name. From there, I can look after it for $50 a month, or you can take it over.

About me

My day job is in health care, explaining complicated things in plain language. That turns out to be most of building a good website, and all of teaching someone to use AI.

I’ve built sites and small apps for a few years, mostly for people who asked. Knapp Build is how I do that for more people. If you got my card, it’s because I thought I could help.

I do this work evenings and weekends. That’s why a first draft takes 3 to 4 days rather than one: the hours are there, they’re just spread across the calendar. Email gets a reply within a day.

Tell me what you need.

A website, a lesson, or something in between. Asking is free and doesn’t commit you to anything. I’ll reply within a day. Or email [email protected].
